Our Coaches

  • Oge Austin-Chukwu

    Oge Austin-Chukwu: Essex

As a qualified Leadership/Executive Coach, I help individuals and teams clarify their goals and develop strategies to achieve them.  My past and current roles include -  GP Partner for 7 years (5 as Senior Partner), Portfolio GP, GP Appraiser and medical students’ Tutor.  I know from experience the challenges of balancing a busy career with life outside work and discovered coaching when I was at a crossroads in my career. I haven’t looked back since! I run my own coaching business and completed training with Akeso in 2020.

I have had the privilege of coaching many leaders from business, educational and not-for-profit sectors and have facilitated countless workshops on various topics such as time management, resilience and stress management. I also have a keen interest in Diversity, Equality and Inclusion, and am Co-founder of Sheerah Network, an organisation dedicated to support and training in DEI. Married to a GP, I have two adult children and enjoy writing (have a few published books), house renovation, and travelling.

  • Peter Bailey

    Peter Bailey: Cambridgeshire

I was a GP principal in Cambridgeshire between 1984 and 2012, first in Cambridge City and then in Cambourne.  I began working with the Akeso coaching and mentoring service in 2014 and have coached twenty-three doctors and delivered over a hundred hours of sessions. I also work as a clinician for NHS Practitioner Health, a nationwide primary care service looking after GPs who self-refer with a wide variety of mental health issues. I have undertaken the ILM7 diploma course in Coaching and Mentoring.

In the past, I have chaired the LMC, been vice-chair of a commissioning group and have served on the Performance Advisory Group with NHS England.  I have first-hand experience of being helped through times of crisis.  I firmly believe that wounded healers make the best doctors and would encourage any doctor facing professional and personal challenges to seek help.  Akeso is a good first step!

  • Rekha Bhatiani

I am very enthusiastic about the benefits of coaching and am looking forward to supporting colleagues in making positive changes in their lives.

  • Felicity Blain

    Felicity Blain: Norfolk

I’m a portfolio GP, with medicine as a second degree. I’m a wife, mum of four, carer to sister with disabilities, multiple pet owner and Assistance Dog fosterer. I’ve worked for pharma, in sales, in the care sector, in hospitality and more. I’ve been a locum, a salaried GP, a Partner and back again. Professionally, I have interests in Lifestyle Medicine, Communication Skills and teaching. Raised in London, I attended university in Manchester and more recently relocated to Norfolk. I’ve actively changed my personal and professional life when I’ve needed or wanted to. I’m aware of the challenges of juggling the reality of numerous responsibilities both at work and at home. Coaching is a fantastic opportunity to have some time to focus on you in a non-judgemental space. In addition to my role with Akeso, I’m currently completing ILM Level 5 and a Transactional Coaching Diploma.

  • Harriet Bowers

    Harriet Bowers: West Essex

After qualifying as a GP in 2011 I worked for 10 years in Cambridgeshire before moving to a practice closer to home in West Essex. Over the years I have worked in a variety of job roles: as a partner, locum, salaried and now retained GP. I have 3 young children giving me insight into the juggle of being committed to work whilst meeting the emotional and practical needs of a family. I find mental boosts in the beauty of nature, art, running and in the wise words of others. As humans we have potential for huge greatness and huge mistakes, great joy and great anguish. It would be a privilege to provide you with the space to unpack your current circumstances and to help you identify and achieve your personal goals.

  • Jessica Bray

    Jessica Bray: Norfolk

I retired from clinical practice after being a GP for more years than I care to remember. I have always been involved with education in primary care. I undertook an MClinEd at UEA in 2010 and became a GP trainer. I now work for Norwich Medical School at UEA on the MB BS course, leading on Reflective Practice and as a Practice Development Tutor supporting practices and their GP Tutors teaching Year 1 students. I also remain involved with primary care through my work as an Appraiser.

I benefitted from NHS England sponsorship to do the EMCC foundation programme and started coaching. This course was a lightbulb moment for me where I was able to bring together skills from my clinical and teaching practice in a new exciting way. As a coach, my aim is to give the time and space to think and reflect in a safe supportive environment.

  • Pauline Bryant

    Pauline Bryant: Norfolk

I love having the opportunity to support people to achieve their goal, whatever that might be. I have been a General Practitioner and University Lecturer for 25 years during which time I have supported countless numbers of students, staff, and patients all with unique aspirations. I would love to help you move forward with any aspect of your life, to explore ways to improve things, whether you have a big or small problem or even if you do not have a problem. I would be happy to give you time and space to think in a supportive environment. About me: married, 4 children, 2 Labradors, hens, fish, plants.

  • Jane Calne

    Jane Calne: Norfolk

As an Appraiser I have increasingly seen GPs overburdened, juggling the demands of career and home life. I know that life is not always plain sailing, however I believe that through adversity we grow as human beings and enhance our lives.

In 1989 I started my own Surgery, creating a welcoming Practice where I knew all my patients personally. I understand work-life balance challenges, having once taken my kids on a home visit! I loved teaching students and expanded this role by teaching consultation skills and mentoring GP tutors. Subsequently as a Salaried GP at the UEA, I helped troubled students with their mental health. As a GP, teacher and mentor, I have intuitively used a coaching perspective. As a trained coach, I help people discover their own solutions, providing additional guidance when appropriate. Coachee feedback :“Jane has excellent active listening skills and has encouraged me not only to share any issues but also helped me organise them”.

  • Mark Chambers

    Mark Chambers: Suffolk

I am a retired GP and GP Trainer. I now consult, coach and teach as an Integrated Health-Care Practitioner, using Mind-Body Complementary Techniques including Mindfulness, Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Clinical Hypnosis. I am a member of the College of Medicine and actively involved through them in Integrating conventional Western Medicine and appropriate Complementary techniques.

My approach to coaching is that people in general already have available to them all the resources they need. My intention is to create a supportive and collaborative environment that allows them to come to sufficient understanding of their situation and needs so that they can identify what they want. They can then develop the means to deliver this, and find the motivation, drive and determination to fulfil their potential, on their terms, on purpose, and to enjoy the process.

  • Alka Chandrayan

    Alka Chandrayan: BLMK

I joined the NHS in 2004, my initial role was a rewarding Obs-&-Gynae job, I then moved into a Primary Care Partnership in 2010. Since then, I have worn various Primary Care hats: GP-Trainer, Senior-Managing-Partner, Clinical & Women's-Health Lead, Team-Educator, GP representative to the local ICDB and sitting on the panel for the local PCN formation. At the request of local authorities, I initiated and led and successfully completed a merger process.

I am a very positive person and look forward to supporting Professionals as a Coach-&-Mentor, to help them work towards their goals and to create inbuilt resilience as a way-of-life.

I have so much to offer in terms of empowering transformation, I can give my help and offer the formula for you to find a path to your success.

Since August 2021, I have been a salaried GP within BLMK-ICS. I very much enjoy my work, leading from behind and doing my bit in helping towards sustainable leadership. Recent feedback suggests, I’ve embarked on the right path. I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Paul Davis

    Paul Davis: Hertfordshire

I have been a GP since 1995 and was a GP Partner for 22 years. I was also a GP trainer. I left my partnership in 2018. I recognised that I needed to change the type of work I did as I was aware of the impact of my job on my wellbeing. I have never been happier than in my current role- which also includes overseeing wellbeing and clinician pastoral services. Although most of my work is in management I still consult every week.

I am happy to work with anyone but my main interests are coaching clinicians who want help navigating difficult patches in their career including those who are contemplating changing their job. I prefer to use a solutions focused approach
helping the client achieve the goal they want by encouraging them to focus on what is possible, rather than the problems and barriers to progress.

  • Paolo de Marco

    Paolo de Marco: Norfolk

I understand that being a clinician can be very rewarding but also challenging.

Would you like help in improving aspects of your life? A better work/life balance, more satisfaction in your work, less stress? Help in progressing your career and/or setting and working towards professional goals? Support to overcome a difficult time in your life or stage in your career?

I believe you have the resources necessary and I can help you develop them with coaching.

I was a GP in Norfolk for over 30 years, until my recent retirement. I continue to work as a tutor at the Norwich Medical School, a member of the Social Security Tribunal and a member of the GMC Fitness to Practice Tribunal.

I have trained as a coach with Akeso and I get great satisfaction from using these skills, and my experience, to help other health professionals towards more fulfilling lives.

  • Lucia Fitzpatrick

    Lucia Fitzpatrick

I have acquired many labels in my life, woman, doctor, GP, partner, educator, appraiser, mother, leader, runner and clinical director, to name a few. They illustrate something about me as they are some of the things that have shaped me personally and professionally. These labels however, do not particularly communicate how, as a coach, I may be of assistance to you. Some of these labels may resonate with you or they may reflect our differences. You may be curious about how my personal and professional experience could support you at this point in your life and if we can do constructive work together. I hope that I can provide a safe reflective space to support you in your learning and decisions, to help you understand where you currently are in your life and what you want and need for your future.

  • Nishma Manek

    Nishma Manek: Cambridgeshire

I’m a GP, First 5 lead for Cambridge, and mum of a toddler and new baby in South Cambridge.

I think I can particularly help with issues I’ve grappled with myself, including work-life blend, time management, juggling a portfolio career, self-care, and managing the imposter syndrome. I especially can relate to mums balancing a pressurised job and family life at home.

I’ve done a few extra things in my GP training, including spending a year working for the National Medical Director for NHS England. As part of this I founded a free leadership programme for young GPs called Next Generation GP.

I have been fortunate enough to be on the receiving end of some excellent coaching at key points in my career, and found that someone simply listening to me intently made all the difference. I’ve done this for several others now, and it’s been hugely rewarding- please do get in touch if I can help.

Having been both a GP and a parent for over 20 years, I have experience of how life can bring us many changes and challenges from both a work and personal perspective. Some are big, some are small and some more difficult than others but often they also bring opportunity for growth and development both personally and professionally. As doctors we are so used to helping our patients that we often forget to invest in ourselves. I firmly believe that by allowing ourselves to develop and work through our challenges we not only benefit ourselves but also our families and patients. Whatever it is you wish to work on, big or small, I bring commitment and empathy to the coaching conversation: I look forward to working with you.

  • Charlotte Turner

    Charlotte Turner: Norfolk

Hello, I’m Charlotte. After qualification (Oxford: 1988), I was surprised to hear doctors discuss balancing their lives - assuming we could ‘have it all’. I have actively worked on balancing my own work/non-work life. I’ve enjoyed being a GP, including research and teaching. I’m retired from clinical work. I am married to a retired psychiatrist, with two daughters - one of whom is a doctor.

Current work: Norwich Medical School – helping GPs develop as teachers; Senior Appraiser; AKESO coach; Private coaching .

Current non-work: Viola; Running; Gardening; Family.

I tailor my coaching approach to the needs of the individual coachee. I am a ‘Myers Briggs Type Inventory’ practitioner. MBTI® is based on Jungian thought, being one of many models I can use in coaching.

Many doctors work in a ‘survival zone’ rather than happily performing. I aim to help you discover your next steps towards ‘happy performance’ - whatever your current issues are.
